Do you ever feel like your mind is a tangled mess? It’s like you have a million tabs open in your brain. It’s stress, and it doesn’t just come from the big things in life. It’s the daily grind, the endless to-do lists, and the constant buzz in your head. This group will focus on learning strategies to lower your stress and give your brain the break it needs.
January 30th: Healing Yourself from Past Hurts
Forgiving someone who has wronged you is a sign of strength. It does not mean that you condone the hurtful actions, but rather that you will not allow those actions to burden you any longer. Learn strategies to help you move beyond your past.
February 6th: Setting Healthy Boundaries to Protect Your Mental Health
Boundaries are essential for maintaining mental health and well-being. They help us define what is acceptable in our interactions with others and protect our personal space and emotional health. Come and learn how to put healthy boundaries in place.
February 13th: What does Healthy Self-Esteem look like?
Self-esteem is the opinion we develop about ourselves in terms of our ability to meet the many challenges of life and achieve happiness and success. This group will focus on identifying ways to build your self-esteem and embrace who you are.
February 20th: Understanding Anger
Anger is the emotional response that we have to an external or internal event perceived as a threat, violation, or injustice. Anger is a normal part of the human experience. However, if we handle and express anger inappropriately we can do harm to ourselves and/or others.
February 27th: How to Break Your Emotional Attachment to Stuff
Many experts believe our attachment to things begins with our emotions. Our personal belongings can often fill emotional gaps, bringing us comfort and security, especially during times of stress. Stuff can and does weigh us down mentally, emotionally, and physically. Learn why we cling to things and how to let go.

Get to Know Our Golden Valley Therapist
Maureen Daugherty, MA LMFT
Maureen graduated from the College of St. Catherine with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. Her first professional role in the field was as an Intake Coordinator for a teen shelter in St Paul for 3 years. While raising her children, she received her license as a Parent Educator through the University of Minnesota. She taught a variety of classes in the Anoka-Hennepin school district’s Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program for more than 20 years.
After hearing many stories of parents struggling with their mental health, Maureen went on to get her master’s degree in counseling and psychotherapy. After graduating, Maureen provided in-home therapy and individual, family, and couples counseling. She then worked as a Parent & Family Services Manager for 4 years at a homeless family shelter downtown. For the last 10 years, Maureen has been in private practice in Anoka, MN, providing support for those dealing with depression, anxiety, and other issues that keep people stuck in moving forward in their lives.
