Dr. Brian Johns
Dr. Brian Johns is a Diplomate of the American Psychiatric Association and co-owner of Advanced Brain-Body Clinic. He has a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Temple University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, where he completed a residency in Psychiatry. With degrees in English, Film and Photography and advanced certification from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington DC, Dr. Johns understands that each person’s illness is unique and requires an individualized approach.
Dr. Johns specializes in treating depression that hasn’t responded to traditional interventions. He believes that treatment resistant depression must be assuaged through a multimodal model, with equal attention to the mind, body and spirit for optimal results. As such, Dr. Johns works as a guiding member of your healthcare team and may request lab work, genetic testing, specialty referrals and/or psychological testing for diagnostic clarification.
Dr. Johns performed a landmark study with researchers at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System, which was the first trial to add ketamine to existing outpatient regimens. The astounding results of this study set the benchmark for ketamine infusions nationwide. Dr. Johns subsequently developed the region’s first ketamine infusion clinic at North Memorial Health and performed over 1,800 infusions and injections while directing the largest expansion of mental health services in the organization’s history. He also served as a consultant to Janssen Pharmaceuticals in the development of esketamine (Spravato), which was approved by the FDA for treatment resistant depression in 2019. Dr. Johns also offers transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and completed a fellowship in transcranial magnetic stimulation at Duke University.
Outside of work, Dr. Johns enjoys wildlife photography plus spending time with his family hiking, biking, skiing, and traveling.

Dr. Stephen Manlove
Dr. Manlove grew up in Minnesota and moved to South Dakota in 1987. As a Board Certified Psychiatrist, Forensic Psychiatrist, and Internist, Dr. Manlove practiced for 30 years using the standard medical model. Unfortunately, one disease may have many different causes and the standard model doesn’t work in every situation. Around 2014, he made the decision to look beyond standard practice to try to help every one of his patients; exploring more modern theories of illness and researching new treatment strategies. Where he found scientifically based positive outcomes, Dr. Manlove incorporated new methods into our clinic. More patients began reporting better outcomes; the change has made him personally very optimistic about the future of psychiatric care.
Dr. Manlove truly enjoys having the opportunity to meet, know, and problem solve with people from all walks of life. In his free time, Dr. Manlove enjoys ranch work, wilderness hiking, endurance athletics, and the love of his life, Peggy.
